THE INTERIOR SPACE

THE INTERIOR SPACE

Petit-GH-Tennyson-02

An interior space always narrates a story. A canvas where the equilibrium between the elements used – materials and its textures, the illumination and its contrasts-  reflect characteristics of those who inhabit that space and the use they gave it; they provide it of their own personality, environment and energy.

Who is the painter of this piece? Who is in charge of brushstrokes that create this unique piece? Who writes the story narrated by the space? Who provides the trademark that characterize them? The decoration? The design? The architecture?

In not specialized circles these terms tend to be utilized in a indistinct or flexible way, like if the frontiers that divides them were not clear at all. But one of these disciplines, interior decoration, interior design or interiorism and the architecture of interiors, takes care of different aspects of the space.

PH-Laja-03

The most superficial of the three – and we say superficial without a frivolity connotation, but in its more literal aception, that is to say,  what is relating to the surface- is interior decoration, due to its relationship with the aesthetics aspects of space, with furniture and color selection. Decorating is just a tiny part of the process of interior design it contains the decoration and goes beyond it.

The interior design job is deeper. It’s a wide profession that considers all the aspects involved in the planning and design of interior spaces in the built environment. An interiorist has the capacity to modify the structure, of working with the distribution of space to adapt it to the desired functionality.

For its part, Interiors architecture is the balance between the art and science of the design of a space,  taking in considerations all the elements of the construction, from the windows or the walls size to the primary materias. Is the intersection or the bridge between architecture and interiorism.

Space design has a bigger background than what is think of. As we were saying, for us each space is a canvas where we are going to place a story. we see that space as a scenography inhabitable, where every element participates in the narrative.

What do we do in DEPA 102? Everything our client requires to make of his space a scenery that corresponds to the history he wants to tell. We dream, believe and take risks; we combine all the disciplines at our disposal so the spaces we intervene become memorable, that’s why we say we dramatize spaces.
